Healthy Habits To Start In 2019!

Some habits that I'll be starting and continuing with for a healthier, more productive 2019

Happy 2019!

I can't believe the Christmas period is over and we're into another year.  After a few weeks of hibernating eating the last of the Christmas food it's time to get back into the swing of things and get motivated for another year.  This is the best time of the year to re-evaluate how you're planning your life and make some changes if necessary.  I don't make resolutions for the new year as I don't believe in them.  I think they are things that we get bored of after a few months and give up on once we get fed up with them.  We're basically setting ourselves up to fail and I don't like that.  I do believe, however, that it is important to make goals and intentions for the year ahead.  These are my plans for the following year that I either want to continue or start in 2019.

No. 1
DRINKING WATER

We're are made up of up to 70% water.  Our bodies are constantly using this water so it goes without saying that we need to drinking a lot of water to replace this fluid so it's very important to keep hydrated.  I feel dehydrated the most when I wake up in the morning.  This is understandable as our bodies have gone for a whole night without water so it makes sense to re-hydrate first thing in the morning.  Last year I got into the habit of keeping a water bottle with me throughout the day.  Waking up in the morning I make sure to drink as much water as possible to re-hydrate my body.  It really helps me feel less sluggish and drowsy in the morning, plus it stops things such as brain fog, headaches, dry skin which can be the causes of dehydration.  I'm a huge fan of keeping a water bottles with me throughout the day.  I find it makes it easier for me to keep track of how much water I've drunk during that day.  A goal of mine this year is to get a litre water bottle to make it even easier to get in my daily amount of water.

"Do something today that your future self will thank you for."

No. 2
DRINKING MORE GREEN SMOOTHIES

I'm always on a mission to get more fruit and veg into my body every day.  In general I want to start including more veggies into my meals, especially green vegetables.  Something that has really helped me is drinking green smoothies, particularly first thing in the morning.  I've been following the detoxing green smoothie recipe on my blog.  It's a quick and easy way for me to get vitamins and minerals into my body.  Plus the added ginger is good for my digestive system.  Ginger helps your digestion and immune system so it's a good way to cleans your body in the morning.  Now, mornings don't feel the same if I don't have a green smoothie.  It sets me up for the day and makes me feel good inside and.  It's become a big part of my morning routine which is why I'm going to continue with in 2019.

"A little progress each day adds up to BIG results."

No. 3
CREATING A NIGHTTIME ROUTINE

Routines are so important to have on a day-to-day basis, they help you establish structure in your life.  Last year I became very good at forming a morning routine for myself which helped me get things done and be more productive.  In the morning I like to make my bed, hydrate by filling my water bottle up and  Following this routine keeps me feeling organised and motivated for the day ahead.  It's good to look at routines as the base for your day and they create a balance between your work and personal life.

Something I haven't been so successful with is creating a night time routine.  Night time routines are just as important as morning ones.  Morning routines help set you up for the day, getting you motivated for the day ahead.  As much as we need this, we also need a routine in the evening that's going to help us wind down after a long day.  I intend to get in a routine of doing at least 3 things before bedtime that are going to get my body into a calming and relaxing mode before going to sleep.  My aim is to start getting ready for bed at 9 o'clock by making myself some herbal tea, something like this Clipper Sleep Easy Tea that's going to help calm my body down.  Along with this I want to continue with my usual skincare routine, then read a book whilst diffusing some essential oils, with the intention of going to sleep at 10:30pm.

"You only fail when you stop trying."

START READING MORE

Something I've been doing less and less of in recent years is reading a good book.  I've always loved reading but over the last few years I've had less and less time for it.  This is purely my own fault as I've not been putting in time to dedicate to reading.  This is something that fits in with goal number 3 in establishing a nighttime routine.  By doing this I'm enabling myself to have time during the evening to do a little bit of reading before I go to bed.  My goal is to read maybe a chapter or two before bedtime.  Plus, it breaks the habit of being tempted to go on social media which stops you from unwinding.

I hope these goals and intentions inspires you to start some new habits this year.
